America’s Fourth Great Constitutional Rupture?

Will President Trump’s challenge to the existing #constitutional order degenerate into Caesarism?

Caesarism identifies and describes an #authoritarian, #populist, and autocratic ideology inspired by Julius Caesar, the leader of Rome, from 49 BC to 44 BC.

A constitutional #Caesarism is a contradiction in terms. A view from a historian.

Rage to boycott US products is spreading.
US had voted for #tariffs back in November, which is pretty much the same thing really.

If I were either US #maga or EU #populist, I would advocate for ditching free markets, enrage my electorate base against the others, and perpetuate my position in power.
A win-win situation for US and EU politicians.

The Guardian · ‘I feel utter anger’: From Canada to Europe, a movement to boycott US goods is spreadingBy Peter Beaumont

"They [populists] become glued to the very thing they usually denounce - an outside, foreign force. And they cannot easily unstick themselves. The old lines lose their impact. The mainstream parties see a weakened #populist opposition. And they go in for the kill."

Political Calculus · Twilight of the Populists?By Ben Ansell

“We need more #social budgets than ever, more social #rights, more social #welfare, more #PublicHousing policy, more – and better – #employment. The other approach is to fall into the dialogue of the #FarRight and there the far right wins.”

Do not do exactly what our largest parties have done, clothing themselves in far-right jingoism in desperate, misguided appeal to #populist relevance.

You should always start with , as that was is being taken for granted, as a popular understandings of what is going on. Common sense always already contains critical elements and are always contradictory. What are the organisational forms and processes through which common sese can become more collective, more coherent and more critical, in a way that enables collective critical actions and practices.
That is far more complex and challenging than left . We have seen the limits of those in spain and greece.

What we can see, are two different forms of hegemony: On the one hand, what , , , , represent is a liberal form of neoliberal hegemony, that seeks to neutralize the popular antagonisms that are the workings of neoliberal . On the other hand, what represent, is a form of this , that tries to mobilize these social antagonisms, more often than not in terms of , , , but then tries to keep control over that, which is where the character of that [shows].

I don't particularly see those events as the core problem. If anything, they are symptoms of the root cause that the mainstream is as corrupt as their "" counterparts (if not more) and there hasn't been much of a anywhere in a long time.

And it's getting worse and worse.

Destructive is their "" and unlike in the movies they haven't been brought to , yet.
