@johnbrowntypebeats “Can’t have clean coal without some dirty water”. I’d use the eggs/omelette story, but, well, there’s no eggs.

@CAWguy
Coal and extractive energy are the key reasons that Appalachia suffers environmentally. Mountaintop removal leads to worse outcomes from flooding.

However, the inadequate infrastructure is due to the abandonment of Appalachia after coal profits fell behind. Many people and companies outside Appalachia benefited from coal mining.

Now, the water table is poisoned, and local/state/federal governments are failing to improve critical infrastructure.

@johnbrowntypebeats

I feel like “mildly infuriating” is downplaying the situation. As an outsider, this has been normalized. Appalachians are a resilient people, but they shouldn’t have to be.
You got people without water half the time out west and on the rez. People lighting their water from the tap on fire in the midwest. CA is about to be more fucked than usual since they released all that water.
Have you come across anywhere to donate? I’m gonna check later today.

@littleteeth
There are local organizations taking donations (not sure if this is money + supplies). I don't know if they have ways to take donations through online means.

I pinned a post replying to @antidotezine but I can't find their post anymore. It had a list of organizations/non-profits/mutual aid groups. Not sure if any were related to Southern West Virginia. I'm more familiar with groups in TN, NC, KY, & VA.

@johnbrowntypebeats
I just realized I didn’t finish my thought. Still at work.
I hear how often this happens in WV, sometimes people just don’t have running water. There is no urgency from almost all levels of govt. I’m worried about water everywhere bc people are/will be struggling. Again thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

@littleteeth
I don't follow as close as I could but I understand this current situation is related to the flooding. But boil water advisories are pretty common in Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia.
