For around 24 hours now someone has been trying to get into my #Microsoft #Hotmail / #Outlook account - and every hour or so I'm being sent a single use sign in code.
Annoying. Not sure how I can stop it. It's not that they know my password, they are clicking the button to sign in without a password which sends a code to your backup email which then allows sign in without a password. Grr.

Why does neither Google nor Microsoft's cloud services understand the "Maximum size exceeded" error in an email rejection? If a competent mail service rejects an email that is too large, Microsoft will tell users the email was rejected as spam and Google will tell users the email was rejected because the destination mailbox is full. Both are wrong and dumb. #email #gmail #outlook

Moving relatively simple generic services such as file hosting, buckets etc. is somewhat easy.
A bigger challenge: to get away from the entire #Mircrosoft environment, the entire #Outlook+Office+Teams+::: package, and such integrated systems.
In #Denmark we are unfortunately very used to it- a dependency/addiction grown over years/decades, which will be harder to undo,

Thunderbird vs Outlook.

J'utilise #Thunderbird pour mes courriels personnels et #Outlook à ma job (parce que c'est ça qu'on me fourni). Et donc je suis bien placé pour comparer les 2 logiciels.

Et oui, Thunderbird est pas mal compliqué à utiliser, avec des boutons partout.

Mais tu sais quoi? Outlook est tout autant compliqué! Y'a autant de boutons partout! Tout est compliqué.

La différence c'est qu'en plus, y'a Microsoft qui nous espionne et faut payer pour le logiciel. 🙀

Does anyone know how to disable "What's New”? Or at least prevent it from giving the app icon a badge suggesting there's something for me to check out that I might actually give two shits about?

I want to know whether I have unread email or not. I could not care less about anything I've found in "What's New” each time it's promised there's something that needs my attention.

Quand on vous dit d'éviter les produits Microsoft et opter pour des systèmes d'exploitation (tels que #linux) et des logiciels libres (tels que #thunderbird), c'est pas pour rien.

Some of the ingredients: #Outlook and its habit of hiding important information from the user and missing #2FA which is phishing-resistant.

Use #FIDO2 with hardware tokens if possible (#Passkeys without FIDO2 HW tokens are NOT phishing-resistant due to the possibility of being able to trick users with credential transfers: arxiv.org/abs/2501.07380) and avoid Outlook (or #Microsoft) whenever possible.

Further learning: it could happen to the best of us! Don't be ashamed, try to minimize risks and be open about your mistakes.

Note: any 2FA is better than no 2FA at all.
