I dislike "open concept" kitchens
Apparently this is a hot take but IMO, cooking noises and smells should be isolated rather than... amplified and spread throughout the rest of the dwelling
@sidereal I like those kitchens with an island so we can chase each other around it. And with a nice big pantry too. With my youngest we'll do a puzzle one piece at a time and act out the vehicle or animal while running around in a big circle through the kitchen, entryway, and living room.
@sidereal whenever my grandma would see open kitchen floor designs, she'd say "oh great, so everyone can see the dirty dishes when they walk through the front door"

Even better all the houses where the primary outside access door opens into the kitchen! Yes, I love it when my family tromps through the kitchen with muddy shoes on while I'm trying to get a hot pan out of the oven

@sidereal I do wonder whether this problem would go away in places with safely high levels of air exchange and filtering, a thing the current airborne pandemic is the latest thing to show we need and won't be getting under capitalism.
