Do you live, work, or study within City of #Perth? Or regularly visit or travel through? There's a survey open about lowering the speed limit to 40km/hr (which is proven to make streets safer and allow people to connect more to community): https://engage.perth.wa.gov.au/expansion-of-the-city-of-perth-40-km-h-speed-zone
@scroeser be interesting to see what people think. I remember the lowering from 60 to 50 on the same rationale.
@zanchey a lot of places are making the shift to 30km/hr on local roads, with positive results https://post.parliament.uk/research-briefings/post-pb-0065/
Sadly, road safety seems to be yet another thing that the right is turning into a culture war.
@scroeser I'm wondering if there's an inflection point at which reducing speeds further is unlikely to make significant benefit, although I guess with larger cars on the road all the time (and I'm complicit) that number is probably continually falling
@zanchey From what I've seen around the world, generally 30km/hr is seen as pretty good for safe streets with a significantly decreased chance of people being killed by cars.
