The director of Kamal Adwan hospital in has been taken hostage by the Israeli occupation forces, reportedly after a raid on his hospital. The hospital was shut down and many medical staff have gone missing, leaving patients without access to care.

The incident is the latest in a long line of attacks on healthcare workers in Gaza, with over 1,000 health workers killed since October 2023.

Human rights groups are speaking out against ’s actions, saying that Abu Safiya may be being held without charge or trial and facing torture. International has also spoken out, saying that he may be being subjected to arbitrary detention and torture.

The World Health Organization has condemned the action, calling it "grossly illegal and revolting".
