new nerd level unlocked! I made a little ascii art out of a photo I took. I'm going to make this guy into the message of the day in my shell. If you have to ask why, we are not the same. Here's the before and after.

photo of a little mostly green (with faint polka-dots) monster figurine. Stripey yellow horns, very wide-set black button eyes, big, sharp, snarley teeth, ridiculous short arms and legs, and a fat belly. Oh, the background is pink for easy cropping.
the same monster from the first photo, but made of ascii characters. it's faithful enough to the photo to be recognizable, but smooshed enough to be interesting. it's displayed in my zsh shell, and the background is black

I really like this one too. it's got a spooky quality that's working for me. this time I used braile characters instead of asci, and applied a dithering effect. here's the before and after:

a photo of a monster figurine. it's a skeleton wearing like dark brown monkey pajamas where the white face of the skeleton is poking out through the mouth of the monkey. it's also holding a lighter brown stuffed money in one hand, and is seated with it's legs stretched out in front.
the same monster from the first photo, but rendered in braille characters (dots, I suppose). the dark brown color of the base image together with the dither effect makes most of this image empty space. the shape of the body is implied, with enough hints to be able to see it. just. the face of the skeleton is in contrast to this mood as very clear and white. Same for the face and hands of the stuffed monkey, except in a weird light-blue/green
