When folks started calling for Biden to step down, I would have said that it was too risky in the short time there was left before the election.
On the other hand, as an old white dude, and given that everyone has heard quite enough from old white dudes, I could also STFU, which is what I opted to do.
I’m happy to have been wrong. Whatever the end result is, given the fire that has taken hold of regular folks to elect a black, Asian woman POTUS, clearly his stepping down was the right choice. Even believing as I do that elections can’t save us, and that there’s more trouble ahead no matter what happens here, this small movement toward awakening is important and I acknowledge it.
