We are being fed a line that "talking politics is bad that is what made twitter into a "#hellsite. So let's not talk about politics.
Which, translated, means, let's abandon the concerns of black Mastodon LGBTQIA+ Mastodon human rights workers and trade cat pictures.
Conveniently right before the election. Conveniently right when capitalism has self-destructed Twitter, with ripples going out to Lilly and others.
Conveniently right when there is a brazen plan for a totalitarian fascist coup d'etat for the year 2025, we are being asked to depoliticize.
Because trading cat pictures and sunsets will distract us from the crimes being commit by the wealthy backers of the known plans of the fascists.
It is a fact that the Oath Keepers and the PB are plotting coups. This is well documented.
@copernicus yeah no politics rules in discord servers and subreddits and other user-moderated spaces tend to coincide with really awful moderation, 'cause politics is whatever disturbs the status quo. even if the status quo is literally someone saying slurs constantly.
on mastodon that's def been manifesting as people getting mad that black people talk about racism sometimes. but the upside is that there's not some corporation or moderation structure *enforcing* that those whiny motherfuckers get to tell everyone else what to do. like they can't discord mod away the problem like they've grown accustomed to, there's some level of accountability for moderation as well as users.
still not *great* but like there's some capacity to actually fix these cultural issues rather than it being solidified because a platform holder's banning people for saying cracker.
