UK folk will have seen the brouhaha over Gary #Lineker's comparison of current rhetoric around refugees and irregular migration to the language of 30's Germany.

It's annoying that his opponents won't say why he is wrong. It's also telling.

In fact though, he is wrong. The right comparison is apartheid South Africa. The official line of the government is that they are saving lives, that this is a humanitarian intervention. At the same time, people on the move are portrayed as barbaric, violent, criminal and dangerous. A closed border is portrayed as necessary to protect 'our' 'civilisation' from collapse. 'Extremists', who despite being the core constituency for the Tories, are the ones screaming about Britain first and the undermining of the vital strength of the nation and all that Nazi crap. They had their counterparts in apartheid South Africa.

I find it interesting that this comparison is not being made. Perhaps it is because it is not a Nazi society, so it is somehow safe to use that idea to point out and oppose the racism of the establishment. It is however an apartheid society and that makes a great number of us, including me, complicit in a crime against humanity.
