Good talk, for ppl looking for a spark of hope during the tumultuous past few weeks.

Unfortunately, I saw big cracks in his summation of what's happening.

While I agree with Ezra's main point of "don't believe him", that doesn't change what's happening on a daily basis in America right now.

The first crack was when Ezra said this wasn't a coup.
It most certainly is.

The second crack was when he highlights the power of the common federal worker, VA doctors and nurses specifically.
What will they do, Ezra asks, stop treating their patients?

In an authoritarian regime, the short answer is yes they will. Not voluntarily or by choice of conscience, but bc they will be forced to - thru lack of funding (now controlled by musk) and/or lack of staffing thru firings, layoffs and downsizing.
This ethos of starving any department, policy or movement of funds and personnel will be replicated across the board throughout our govt institutions.

We have the courts and rule of law supposedly on our side, but only up to the point of the final court, SCOTUS.
How much faith can we have in a SCOTUS that is already predominantly corrupted by bribes, allegiance to the architects of the coup and totally bereft of any good conscience/mores?

We have evidence of the levels authoritarian regimes will go to enact their human rights crushing goals, with nazi Germany being the biggest, worst and most obvious.
A modern version of that will be so much worse.

Ofc, there is a chance, albeit small, that the trump regime will fail and fizzle out like a sparkler; but there will be much damage done and many atrocities against ppl and the planet in the meanwhile and especially during the time of their outing bc they will not give up peacefully, quietly or easily this time.
