@LukefromDC @Free_Press Sadly Musk has just figured out, because his DOGE bypassed Congress and seized the Treasury payment systems, that the federal government isn't reliant on tax income but instead digitally creates all the money with keystrokes on computers.

This is an acutely dangerous situation, as it means he now effectively has infinite dollars if he can find a way to appropriate funds discreetly enough. Boundless greed + magic money machines + zero Congressional oversight = disaster.

Friday: go to Wal-Mart, buy one pack of sodas with that $500,000 and not have enough left for a roll of toilet paper.

@LukefromDC @Free_Press That situation has never actually occured in any economy that hasn't had its supply side destroyed, for example by war (Weimar) or violent land reform (Zimbabwe), but we are in agreement that someone as reckless as Musk could probably start it.

Certainly it makes a mockery of the idea that DOGE is "saving" anything, since it's not possible for a monopoly currency-issuer such as the USA to "save". It's entirely self-funding. You don't need money when you ARE the money.
