Colectivo Relámpago is a Zapatista solidarity project that has existed for over 15 years and recently published a translation of 12 Zapatista stories with commentaries that elaborate them as political interventions, Zapatista Stories for Dreaming An-Other World. Members of Colectivo Relámpago will present several recently translated Zapatista stories with commentaries that highlight them as political interventions. The presentation will be framed with a reprise of Zapatista history and an analysis of their current situation, as the 30th anniversary of the Uprising (January 1, 2024) approaches, and as paramilitarization and attacks on the communities intensify, along with the mega-development projects of the current, supposedly left-wing Mexican president, Lopez Obrador (AMLO). Boston COVID Action is a collective of organizers distributing information and safety resources across Boston in order to mitigate the harms of the ongoing pandemic and help each other survive. By doing so, we struggle against the oppressive system that keeps us sick and denies us safe community. This workshop will cover the political history of the COVID pandemic so far (how did we get here?), debunk popular myths about COVID that pervade even left and anarchist spaces (where are we now?), and unpack our responsibilities and options as organizers facing ongoing mass death, disablement, and government abandonment (what do we owe each other?). The final portion of this workshop will open up the floor for questions and stories from audience members. Thursday, Nov 9, 6:15-7:45pm

Zane McNeill is an activist-scholar from West Virginia and the editor of Y'all Means All: The Emerging Voices Queering Appalachia. In this presentation, Zane will explore contemporary queer organizing in Appalachia. Instead of just surviving an onslaught of anti-trans and anti-queer attacks in the region, queer Appalachians create spaces to create, dream, and thrive. Together, we can work to create queer futures in the region and beyond. Thursday, Nov 9, 5-6pm
