@rooftopjaxx @witchescauldron which part are you guys referring to as mainstreaming? the masses going along with the browsers that are basically forced upon them? or no one pushing for a independently maintained fork of gecko?

#mainstreaming is our desirer to belong to the current worshipping of the #deathcult (a practical metaphor for #neoliberalisam) so in a different context #mainstreaming might be the right thing to do, BUT not in the current context.
For example, #mainstreaming the #openweb is good as far as the values of the open web transfer to the mainstream and bad in the content of the #ministreaming infusing the openweb so context matters.
@witchescauldron @rooftopjaxx i has read your blog so i understand how you're using the term. i'm just clarifying that its the monopoly level control of the browser/web engine market that you're referring to as a consequence/manifestation of mainstreaming.
which i don't disagree with, and its an interesting discussion. but my OP was what do we have to do claw back the market? at least enough to keep an open-source web engine alive, maintained, and sustainable-- which i'm worried gecko isn't (especially in the hands of mozilla foundation). unlike a lot of foss enthusiasts, i don't think number needs to go up. but number does need to be a certain level to maintain and sustain.
@benda @rooftopjaxx with Mozilla I stopped going to their #openweb events about ten years ago, I could feel they were lost then, #NGO stuff is very easy to subvert, it's kinda built in to the path. What we do about this is not easy as currently grassroots #DIY tech spaces are hollowed out. We need to make this more visible, then somehow build a bridge to resources to refill these spaces. This is not a #KISS issue. And it's not improving currently.
@witchescauldron @rooftopjaxx i agree with all that. i think you're right about visibility being a big problem. most folks don't understand the role a web engine plays in their everyday lives, much less the importance of making sure we have one that isn't controlled by the corpos. ngo's included, for the most part.
All the current talk about this is noise, I don't know what signal would look like?
Think the might be a path in federated hybrid #P2P apps as a way to step away from the browser if we fail in the end.
