I masked for years when I was working around toxic dust, when none of my coworkers did and many of them teased me about it. Some of them now have weird miner lung diseases. This is not from West Virginia in the 30's, this is from a job at a hipster company featured in Martha Stewart's magazine. I started working there in 2008.
I am absolutely used to catching shit for being the only person in the room masked against the thing that is killing us.
It's a weird thing to be used to.
@sidereal People make comments now and then about my masking.
I just think to myself, "I get no benefit from this, it's all for you.... fucking idiot."
@Air_Quotes_Comedian My joke response is just to say that I don't like smelling people's funky perfume/cologne (this is a definite fringe benefit of masking, NGL)
@sidereal @Air_Quotes_Comedian I always joke that I took my mask off and people begged me to put it back on. Works pretty well…
@texanarchy @sidereal I got fitted for an n95 at the paid job (it's an annual thing - I guess the size and proportions of people's heads can change over several months) and from now on that's what I'll be wearing in public as I don't want the missus to get it.
