Don't expect to see "Bridgerton" and "Derry Girls" actress Nicola Coughlan in the upcoming HBO reboot of the "Harry Potter" series. The Irish actor posted on Instagram that she "wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole" after Potter creator J.K. Rowling celebrated the U.K. Supreme Court's ruling on the legal definition of a woman, which excludes trans women. Coughlan is known as an advocate for trans rights; after the ruling, she encouraged her followers to support the charity Not a Phase, matching donations up to £10,000 ($13,200). I went to a lil protest in the market square to support transgender people. There were a few idiots driving by shouting a bit of abuse, and towards the end some dumb kids threw some eggs but overall I had a nice time and good to show allyship and support.
I just left the #TransRights protest in Machynlleth, and there were about 100 people there. (Not bad when you consider the town is about 2,200 people in total! Some of the people were from outlying towns and Aberystwyth but still.)
I’m so angry at the way the press (and the government) have latched onto the vandalism of statues to discredit Saturday’s demo.
Yes, that was stupid and disrespectful - i mean, Millicent Garrett Fawcett and Nelson Mandela for God’s sake! - but the atmosphere at the demo was overwhelmingly peaceful, well-mannered, good-humoured and law-abiding.
There were THOUSANDS of trans people & allies there.
A few idiots engage in vandalism and it’s as if the rest of us don’t exist and weren’t there.
Trans people! Stop asking for rights! Demand them! Fight for them!
Nothing has ever been given to the disempowered than by struggle :/

I'm horrified and outraged grieving beyond words for the people affected by the recent UK supreme court ruling on transgender rights.
It seems small, a tiny gesture in the face of it all. But if a song helps, this one, "I'll Be Right Here, Too" is a giant F U to the fascists, and a joyous rallying cry for queer and trans liberation.

@HampshireKarin @nini Karin - The Transport Police and the ‘Equalities’ Comissioner were out of the traps within hours [or less] talking about how they would use men to stripsearch women they assumed were trans women, and how they would demand the NHS [which has no money thanks to Streeting] implement this ruling.
I have never seen a surge in trans women stalking, harassing or doing anyone damage in a toilet or restroom; in fact the only people causing distress, trouble and alarm are those who hate the private lives of complete strangers.
Look at the statistics and look around every day on media - men, men, men assaulting, murdering, raping, upskirting, demeaning all women every day.
All this stupid ruling has done is distress and exclude trans people, enable more assaults by men, and demonstrate the gloating hate of the likes of Linehan [death threat] and Rowling/Galbraith [with bling and a cigar, like Saville], while Laurence Fox continues to call all ‘pedos’ or ‘perverts’, or ‘genital mutilators’. If you think these people have made the world safer by that ruling in the Supreme Court, you have a problem with reality.
There are many babies born every year with extra or less chromosomes - not XX or XY. Some have female genitalia but male chromosomes, others have male genitalia but female ones. The ruling is dangerous, scientifically ignorant, and will cost lives; it also makes some newborns non-persons, as their physical appearance does not match a designated simplistic male/female idea. Under this ruling they will be unable to correct this.
And don’t come at me with ‘it’s only about trans people’. It’s absolutely not. It is about everyone’s autonomy and personal choice.
