HUSH
Osman Ali directed an 80-minute film called 'Bukak Api' on Nov 22, 2000, to shed light on the lives of sex workers and trans women in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. It was a project by PT Foundation and was shot with a Betacam on a shoestring budget of just RM30,000. Even more remarkable, most of the actors were non-professionals from the Chow Kit communities.

By the way, 'Bukak Api' is a local term used by sex workers to mean 'to get a client.'

#LGBTHistoryMonth
