This is where, 80 years ago, the first atomic bomb was detonated on <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Indigenous" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Indigenous</span></a> land. As a result, these lands are among those most affected by uranium mining and the nuclear industry in general. <br /> <br />&quot;Until now, few Indigenous filmmakers have tackled this difficult and often hidden subject. For this reason, the organizers are dedicating an award to promote the production of Indigenous and Native American films about nuclear power, nuclear weapons, nuclear waste, uranium mining, and their consequences. <br /> <br />&quot;The best film by an indigenous or Native American filmmaker will receive a special festival trophy in Window Rock.<br /> <br />&quot;Now in its 14th year, the International Uranium Film Festival (IUFF) is dedicated to presenting films on all nuclear issues and the entire nuclear fuel chain: from uranium mining to nuclear waste, from nuclear war to nuclear accidents. This unique-in-the-world film festival - named &#39;One of the 25 Coolest Film Festivals 2024&#39; by MovieMaker Magazine - was founded in 2010 in Rio de Janeiro and took place for the first time in May, 2011. It has presented more than 300 films in 9 countries and more than 40 cities around the world. <br /> <br />&quot;The founders and directors of the International Uranium Film Festival, Márcia Gomes de Oliveira and Norbert G. Suchanek, were recently awarded the internationally respected 2025 Nuclear Free Future Award for their work.<br /> <br />Film submissions are free for indigenous filmmakers and the deadline is September 20, 2025.<br />Contact for Film Entry: info @ uraniumfilmfestival . org (no spaces)<br /> <br />We welcome any support, partners and sponsors. But progress, they say, comes at a price. Jadugoda, in the eastern state of Jharkhand, is that price.</p><p>&quot;This small township is home to the world&#39;s finest uranium ore, magnesium diuranate, the fodder for India&#39;s nuclear dream and Jadugoda&#39;s nightmare. This lethal feed for the country&#39;s reactors is slowly finishing an entire generation of tribals living in the area. The photo essay documents this dark legacy of Jadugoda, the horrifying expense of unchecked progress through the eyes of its people.</p><p>&quot;A native of Jadugoda, Laxmi Das has had three miscarriages and lost five children within a week of their births. When her ninth child, Gudia, survived, she considered herself fortunate until she discovered that her baby has cerebral palsy and would be bed ridden for life. Gudia passed away in 2012, leaving the scars of her memory. In Jadugoda, a uranium-rich district in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, there are many women who share Laxmi&#39;s fate.</p><p>The people of Jadugoda are exposed to radioactivity in several ways: uranium mining and milling operations produce dust and release radon gas, both of which are inhaled by miners and cause internal irradiation. Uranium ore is transported in uncovered trucks on bumpy roads, causing radioactive debris to fall off and land on the side of the road. The mine&#39;s tailings retain high percentage of the original radiation and are dumped in unlined and uncovered ponds, which emit radon gas and gamma radiation.&quot;<br /><a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/static/groundglass/jadugoda-the-nuclear-graveyard.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">hindustantimes.com/static/grou</span><span class="invisible">ndglass/jadugoda-the-nuclear-graveyard.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Downwinders" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Downwinders</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/UraniumFilmFestival" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UraniumFilmFestival</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/InternationalUraniumFilmFestival" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>InternationalUraniumFilmFestival</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/WaterIsLife" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WaterIsLife</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoNukes" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoNukes</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoWar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoWar</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/UraniumMining" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UraniumMining</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoUraniumMining" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoUraniumMining</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/EnvironmentalRacism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EnvironmentalRacism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/UraniumPollution" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UraniumPollution</span></a></p>

The illuminating &#39;Demon Mineral&#39; is an essential vehicle for those directly impacted by this dire situation to draw attention to their plight.&quot; — Zaki Hasan</p><p>Trailer:<br /><a href="https://vimeo.com/556699310" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">vimeo.com/556699310</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Downwinders" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Downwinders</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/UraniumFilmFestival" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UraniumFilmFestival</span></a><br /><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/InternationalUraniumFilmFestival" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>InternationalUraniumFilmFestival</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/EnvironmentalRacism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EnvironmentalRacism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/WaterIsLife" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WaterIsLife</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoNukes" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoNukes</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoWar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoWar</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/UraniumMining" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>UraniumMining</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoUraniumMining" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoUraniumMining</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LandBack" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LandBack</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Activism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Activism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/IndigenousLands" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>IndigenousLands</span></a><br /><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/IndigenousActivism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>IndigenousActivism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NoMining" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NoMining</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CulturalGenocide" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CulturalGenocide</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/SaveOakFlat" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SaveOakFlat</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/WhiteMesa" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WhiteMesa</span></a></p>
