#Seabird und von #AlarmPhone hat @seawatchcrew letzte Nacht 49 Menschen aus Seenot gerettet, kurz bevor ein Sturm aufzog. Alle Menschen sind jetzt sicher auf #Lampedusa.
~100 Menschen haben es heute Abend trotz widrigster stürmischer Wetterbedingungen selbständig nach #Lampedusa geschafft und sind zwischen Cala Croce und Guitgia an Land gegangen. Nach ersten Meldungen scheinen alle die Überfahrt gut überstanden zu haben.

Am frühen Samstagmorgen rettete die #aurora von @seawatchcrew 17 Menschen aus Seenot. Die italienischen Behörden wiesen dem Schiff Trapani als Hafen für die Ausschiffung zu. Die Überfahrt dauert 10 Stunden, obwohl der nächstgelegene Hafen von #lampedusa nur 3 Stunden vom Rettungsort entfernt gewesen wäre. So mussten die geretteten Menschen weitere 10 Stunden auf See verbringen.
Gestern kamen auf #Lampedusa 100 Menschen an, die von Guardia di Finanza & Guardia Costiera von 2 Booten gerettet worden waren, die von Zawiya und Zouara in #Libyen abgefahren waren.
Am Mittwoch waren 216 Menschen aus 7 Booten auf der Insel angekommen.

The Louise Michel is back at sea
Our crew assisted a boat with 30 people on board
Yesterday evening the Louise Michel departed from Sicily towards the Central Mediterranean. During the night our crew was alerted by the civil emergency hotline @alarm_phone about an overcrowded boat south of Lampedusa.
On the way there our crew found a wooden boat with 20-30 people on it and stayed until #guardiadifinanza za took over and brought everyone safely to #Lampedusa.
Meanwhile tragically another boat in distress, spotted and alerted by #frontex , has most likely been intercepted.
Frontex has been proven to be involved in illegal interceptions and pushing people back to #Libya.
The Louise Michel continues sailing in this area and is ready to assist.

In 2019, Italian Deputy Prime Minister #MatteoSalvini prevented the NGO rescue ship @openarms_fund from docking in #Lampedusa following taking people onboard from a boat in distress. He has now been charged with kidnapping and dereliction of duty and faces six years in prison.
People don't flee because they are violent criminals. They flee from violence! It's a different story with right-wing politicians.
Death just 10 nautical miles from #Lampedusa
This week, after 72 hours of clinging to wreckage at sea, only 7 people survived a tragic shipwreck, just 10 nautical miles from Lampedusa. Over 20 lives were lost, including 3 children. They spent 3 desperate days at sea after fleeing #Libya, a country declared unsafe by human rights groups, and a high court in Italy, for those seeking safety.
While the media fixates on an accident of a superyacht, people continue to risk their lives in search of safety on a daily basis, due to the deadly and racist policies of the #EU. These policies must end. Every life matters!

Yesterday at least 9 people died in front of #Lampedusa
At least 9 people, including 1 infant, have died following a shipwreck in Maltese waters. According to the 23 survivors, several people are still missing.
While people are losing their lives in search of a safe and dignified life in Europe, the EU is simultaneously digging the grave for the right to asylum.
Yesterday, the #EU adopted #CEAS, which drastically restricts the rights of people seeking protection, criminalising and dehumanising them.
We demand safe escape routes for all! Freedom of movement for all! That the EU no longer lets anyone drown in the Mediterranean!
The #Lampedusa #refugees thing is making *huge* waves on right wing social media. There are people denouncing #GiorgiaMeloni, literal neo fascist prime minister, as a crypto socialist liberal who is trying to replace the white population.
Yesterday groups in Italy came together to commemorate the victims of the shipwreck in Cutro, #Lampedusa, who were let to die by Italian authorities.
Their deaths were caused by the criminal system of border externalisation that uses Frontex as its guard dog.
