allen
Students and LA transit riders, make your voices heard here and submit your comments at these meetings. Call for a subway that properly serves UCLA campus instead of a Monorail that bypasses the campus. Ensure the board seriously considers who this transit project is for: the working people of LA, or wealthy Bel-Air & Sherman Oaks homeowner NIMBYs.

I found out about these upcoming community consultations from this video by Nick Andert, check it out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK4-7dFF-T0

#transit #LAMetro

key jordan-abrams
this afternoon's #AccessParatransit bullshit is that they sent a van that the securement set-up had the seat belt cut across my neck, which is dangerous, not to mention uncomfortable, and the driver wouldn't allow me to hold the belt away from my neck so we had to refuse transit.

when I called customer service they said that the next available pickup would be at 1800 this evening, effectively stranding us here for another hour and a half.

so now I'm on hold while they call the backup, which is an Access-certified taxicab wheelchair van.

you can bet I'm making a fucking complaint about this the moment that I'm able to. that seat belt where it was hurt, I'm fairly sensitive to touch and pressure can hurt easily for me. not to mention when the van goes over bumps in the road and such.

anyway, trying to make Access make this right, I'm incredibly upset with this.

I could have transferred to one of the van seats, and that's what I'll do in the future after I at least get a picture of how the securement that I'm refusing is, so that I can document it being going across my neck.

anyway, it's good we didn't have anything else that we were trying to do today.

because it turns out, we're taking #PublicTransit the #LAMetro to get home. it's a whole-ass adventure that we didn't budget for in terms of energy and time, but we'll get home sooner and not be stuck for long periods of time waiting for another Access van.

Adrian Riskin 🇵🇸🍉
LA Metro will vote tomorrow on creating their own police force rather than contracting with LAPD and LASD as they currently do and here's the LA Times editorializing in favor of this absolutely gross plan. This editorial is chock full of lies about safety, declining ridership, etc. Obviously this plan is about harassing the homeless, the poor, and other vulnerable populations, because that's what the cops do now. These people have never ridden a damn bus.

"While there are legitimate concerns about the cost and logistics of building a police department from scratch, including Metro’s ability to staff up at a time when agencies are struggling to hire officers, contracting for law enforcement service is not working well. It’s time to try a different approach. Metro is facing a doom spiral if it cannot make the system safer and increase ridership. An in-house police force is not a panacea for all the system’s ills, but rather one piece of a broader safety strategy that ensures riders feel comfortable and well served on L.A. public transit."

#LosAngeles #LAMetro #LAPD #LASD #PublicTransportation #PoliceAbolition #ACAB

https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2024-06-26/editorial-why-metro-wants-its-own-police-force-again
