benx
Kaiju movie but all the kaiju are Strandbeasts.

#FreeIdeas #StealMyIdeas

benx
Gonna start a new religion where the main ritual involves regularly staring into the distance, sometimes mid-conversation, and speaking to the "audience".

#FreeIdeas #StealMyIdeas

benx
Wanna ramble a little bit about the #FreeIdeas and #StealMyIdeas hashtags I have been using over the years.

There IS actually a fundamentally political idea behind why I use these hashtags. I'm not just using these as a joke or a meme.

I've been using these hashtags to share my ideas because I am the type of person who comes up with ideas all the time, that I think are amazing (at the time at least). But because I have so many ideas, it's kinda impossible for me to make them all actually happen.

I used to not be so open about sharing all the ideas I have. I would write them down in little notebooks, in the hopes that I could use them as part of some sort of commodity one day.

At one point I did have plan to try and make a career out of being a musician, for example.

My attempt at a music career happened to coincide with the peak usage of online piracy, however.

I wasn't against online piracy, though. My teenage years had been spent engaging in a lot of online piracy and I was fond of continuing that hobby.

And so, instead of rejecting online piracy, as a musician, I fell inline with the anti-copyright #FreeCulture movement that was emerging.

The Free Culture movement rejected copyright controls as they currently stood and led to musicians and other artists seeking out different ways of funding their passion projects.

As a result, the Creative Commons license was created, to allow for the restrictions of copyright protections to be loosened more.

And also, platforms like Patreon and Bandcamp were founded, creating places for artists to share their works for free directly, while still having a method of collecting income to help support themselves and their work.

And so, it is in the spirit of this #FreeCulture movement, that I use these hashtags #FreeIdeas and #StealMyIdeas

It would be cool if, one day, these hashtags took off and other people started using them.

I have no idea how I would make that happen though. 🤷

benx
I've already said this before but I'll say it again...

One change I'd like to see in the World Wide Web, is the emergence of websites that can't be accessed 24 hours a day.

Maybe that's a website that's only available from 9-5 each day.

Or maybe it's a web forum that you can only post on for a one hour period every week.

Too much UX design is about pushing people to stay on websites as long as possible.

I won't need to tell you that this obviously encourages unhealthy behaviour from the people using a web service but also...

Also, it means that if a web service goes down at any time of day or night, some poor bastard has to stop whatever they are doing and spend an indeterminate amount of time trying to fix it while the whole entire userbase cries murder.

Maybe, just maybe, we can set boundaries.

Maybe an admin doesn't need to be on call at any time of day or night.

Maybe that thing that you really want to post at 3am can wait until the morning (at which point you might end up being glad that you didn't post it).

I dunno, just an idea.

#FreeIdea #FreeIdeas #StealMyIdea #StealMyIdeas #AnotherWorldIsPossible #internet #boundaries #MentalHealth #sysadmin #UX #UXDesign #WebDesign #ServiceDesign

benx
Really need to get working on being able to clone myself in order to be able to carry out everything I'm interested in doing with my life.

This evening, I thought it might be entertaining to set up a social media account for "The Man", so that there is somewhere that anger can be directed towards for whenever you are angry at "The Man".

Instead, I'll probably be washing the dishes etc. and watching sci-fi.

#FreeIdeas #StealMyIdeas

benx
Movie premise:

Film based on the notion that if the universe is deterministic, then a computer the size of the universe would be needed to predict the future.

In this film, alternate universes exist.

And so, an obsessive scientist figures out a way to send signals to and from an alternate universe.

Then once they achieve this technological breakthrough they use this ability to turn an entire alternate universe into a supercomputer that they use to predict the future.

plot points could involve
- the scientist being challenged on the morality of what they are doing (not taking into consideration the lives of people in the alternate universe)
- using the supercomputer to win the lottery or something
- a prediction not being accurate (this provides a good mid-point to the film where the main character takes a step back and questions everything they've been doing up until that point)
- the prediction not being accurate ending up being the result of another team of scientists (big evil corporation probably) also using the same alternate universe and throwing off the protagonists results.

How does it end? I don't know. Hopefully not some bland cookie cutter ending.

#FreeIdeas #StealMyIdeas
