👍This was a super twisty thriller. The formatting counting down to the FMC birthday increased my anxiety SO MUCH. Every time something bad happened, I kept wondering how things could get worse and they did 😂 The book had a classic Sarah Pinborough twist (if you have read Behind Her Eyes or seen the Netflix show then you know what I’m talking about)

The epilogue tied this book to that book and I am HERE for it!

👍 SUPER brutal cat and mouse thriller involving a serial killer and a medical examiner. I loved the reveal at about 70%. I appreciated the Hannibal references bc this book made me think of Silence of the Lambs 😂 The book was pretty short, (on audio it was only about six hours) so I finished in a day.
PSA- this ends on a cliffhanger!

DNF at 20%. Wallis seems so hungry and grasping and I don’t feel sympathetic to her. I’m actually feeling bad for her poor husband Ernest who seems like he is trying to do everything to keep her happy. I kinda don’t want to read about the inevitable cheating. I might come back to this later.

#Books #CurrentlyReading Amusing Ourselves To Death by Neil Postman. I’ve been meaning to read this book for years and am finally getting around to it. I’m astounded that this book was published 40 years ago, long before smartphones or even the Internet. Postman postulates that television is the main culprit for dumbing down society. And it’s just getting worse, of course. My contention, based on my own observation, is that critical thinking is nearly extinct. I’m eternally grateful for the education I received in #Jesuit institutions in high school and college. It gave me a good foundation of critical thinking that has served me very well. I would highly recommend reading this book.

Da es das Buch im Januar noch nicht zu kaufen gab, hatte Michaela Zitate aus dem Text an die passenden Samentütchen geheftet.

📚 “I care nothing for my life if she is not in it.”

👍 A satisfying conclusion to the duet. There were some cheesy parts, but overall I enjoyed it. I probably won’t continue in the universe anytime soon, just bc the tbr is ever growing 🙃

👍 MAJOR WWZ vibes, except more traumatic bc it’s a 2025 pandemic and the story is told in first person POV as the pandemic progresses. The wide range of human experience from incel conspiracy theorist, to grieving widow and mother, to the scientists trying to find a cure were done very well. The exploration of grief was a big theme as there were some truly heartbreaking parts. There were some happy parts too and I felt finding that balance was important. I also loved the geopolitical commentary/what ifs. I highly recommend the audio as it had a full cast!
