@masukomi @hadley Personally, this artist has never been more proud of myself than when I found my old band's album on a sketchy Russian torrent site. I called my mom and told her I had arrived as a musician.
That meant that people gave enough of a shit about my music to just take it without asking. My songwriting was so good, my band was so cool, that they just had to have it, and they wouldn't let any barriers stand in their way. To me, that's inspiring. It still sends shivers down my spine.
@masukomi @hadley Also like 99% of the albums that inspired my album, I pirated. So it would be pretty hypocritical of me to not let people pirate my own music in turn.
All artists have more to fear from obscurity than piracy.
Also, in a long life of having mostly musicians as my friends, I have never heard a single one of them complain about piracy. Not once.
It appears to me that music fans are, on average, lot more concerned about piracy than most musicians are.
