BBC News had a good feature article on the Fixing Factory in Camden, London, today but didn't include any links to other repair communities around the UK so I'll just mention that there are other repair centres available such as regular Repair Cafes (link below). In my area the local Men's Shed, which includes access for women (as some do some of the time), can often help with suitable repairs. Hackerspaces aren't only for making and will usually help members with repairs. I've also seen adult education courses aimed at teaching repair skills.
