It took a 40+ day blockade, multiple instances of police brutality including torture, and the arrest of a hereditary chief for Canadian mainstream media to start paying attention to the historic battle taking place right now in . All of this is happening within the backdrop of the aptly named COP meetings in where countries like Canada make vapid promises to cut carbon emissions all the while ramming several gas and oil pipelines through native lands.

Meanwhile the fight to stop the clear-cut logging of an ancient forest (massive carbon sink) also in unceded Indigenous land in "BC" continues. Canadian federal police have waged a violent offensive against the activists but the battle is far from over.

With a depleted budget and personnel spread thin as many cops refuse to adhere to new federal rules, the RCMP will have a tough time policing multiple simultaneous theaters or resistance in BC.

All this to say it should be an interesting winter in Canada.
