Life after I turned 30 has been the best years of my life

@emlove 30 is also the best number because if you turn it on its side it looks like a bum pooing.

@ephemeromorph @emlove this implies things about 34, 39, 37 and 32, depending on diet and disposition

@fzer0 @emlove The aches and pains accumulate but it's usually not as bad as they make out. And not infrequently someone's had health issues since they were young but gotten better at managing them.

@capparis Can confirm, although of course 30 isn't a universal magical age

@emlove Wait till you're 50! Double fuckin rainbows!

@franklinlopez @emlove

For me it's been 40s ✨, and can't wait for 50s 🌈🌈

@calendsofapril @emlove 40's were magical - I toured around the world, found the love of my life, became a dad, moved to , witnessed many cop cars on fire - truly an incredible decade. Three cheers for getting old!

@franklinlopez @emlove

Congratulations on a beautiful decade, and an interesting life!

My 20s and 30s were mired by dv and chronic illness.

In my 40s, I've been well enough to organize in many ways I've always wanted to. I have friends and comrades who are very dear to me. Whom I trust.

I want more and more from life, when for a while I didn't think I would ever live this long. I am hopeful for my 50s, there are so many things I have yet to experience.

I have, for example, never witnessed a cop car on fire.

@calendsofapril @emlove The way things are going, I bet you will see a few before the year is over. Happy to hear you are better! Enjoy the ride!

@emlove I quit my job on my 30th birthday, with no job to go to. I just decided I wanted to leave Ireland and go live in Amsterdam and if I didn’t “burn the boats” it would never happen. Best. Decision. Ever.

@Frantasaur @emlove Would love to chat. Been to the Netherlands a couple of times and have been contemplating trying to move there for a few years now and possibly starting a business there.

@Caseydunham simplest business you can start is as a ZZPer, a one person company that fulfills contracts (e.g. a software project) for one or more clients. Don’t know how visas for that would work, so it’s probably easier to get a job for 5 years and get permanent residency first (or even citizenship if you don’t mind giving up your existing one). Plenty of tech jobs here, that’s for sure, and would give you time to learn Dutch (handy when running a business).

@Frantasaur @emlove sure… if you can afford it and not have low income and old stuff to pay off and were betrayed by the offices…

@mirabilos @emlove truth was I couldn’t afford it. I had zero savings. I took a risk by taking out a loan to cover my living costs while I looked for a job (obviously did that before I resigned from my old one). Of course I couldn’t have even done that if I had only a min wage job, so I do see your point. 😔

@emlove @Frantasaur hats off to you then! I couldn’t do that without at least some level of stability.

@emlove @emmatita enjoy ! j’arrive bientôt à 40 moi !

@Violy @emlove j’ai entendu dire que dans la conjoncture actuelle, 40 is the new 30

@emlove man that sounds right, I'm in my late twenties and lemme tell you shit is ramping UP

@emlove
Until 30:
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance <- It's here

@emlove This is literally me.
It kinda feels like I really only started to actually live my life after I turned 30 😅

@emlove 30 was my midlife crisis, but in an extremely mentally ill "you didn't live your most energetic best life truest authentic self, therefore the entire state of the world is your fault, and like uhhhhhhh trillions of people are gonna go to hell forever because of you"

so that took years to recover from, still dealing with it, but like, I'm 38 and having a decent life with more realistic expectations for myself

and a brighter future because I'm letting myself be free! which I *thought* I was doing, but hey there's always room for improvement

@emlove wait tell you get to 50 it's like even if you do have effs to give you're all like "to heck with it I'm keeping my effs for myself" and you just do you and care about what *really* matters

I wonder what happens at retirement does it just keep going that way? It's kinda far out

@msh
It absolutely does. You get the time to focus on the things that matter to you.

@emlove

@JoeWynne @msh @emlove I second that 😎 and you find yourself thinking of things other than deadlines .

@msh @emlove eh nowhere near 50 yet and reached it already, a bit of serenity even

@emlove I'm turning 40 this year and my 30's have been far better than my 20's and I hope the best is to come yet.

The youth is overrated. When I was young I lack the experience needed to enjoy my life.

@emlove I wouldn’t believe this when I was young, but life really gets better year after year! It’s odd because now almost 50 I have more aches and stuff but it doesn’t matter. And it makes me smile when my kid says that ”life will be over soon” (he is 20).

@emlove my 30s were basically stolen from me. but my 40s are starting to make up for it

@emlove I really don't understand people who claim that the time in school is the best with most freedom. it's not like everything afterwards was only flowers and rainbows but school was definitely worse.

@marmeladenbaguette yes, that was my point. 👍 sorry for making it implicit.

@emlove youth ends at 39. And old age starts at 60. In between is adulthood (😢).

@emlove Reminds me of that bullshit line from THE BREAKFAST CLUB: "When you grow up, your heart dies."

If anything, I'm way more empathetic and compassionate now than I was in my teens.

@emlove well, I'm almost 32 and that hasn't happened to me yet so here's to hoping ...

@emlove Let's see.

Youth: being parentified, rural area, poor. Only sees the so called 'teen life' in TV series.

My in my 30s: Living on my own, good job, money to do whatever I please, travelling the world, enjoying life.

@emlove No no. Life after I turned 60 has been the best years of my life
