Thank you for the infographics!
I find it weird that there is so much talking about the grain deal to be vital to "save the poor people in Africa" when clearly most of it goes into feed for industrial livestock production (pigs) in not-so-poor countries...
Maybe these exports have an indirect effect on grain prices worldwide and allow therefore some people in the global south to buy some food.
Anyway, Ukraine needs money to krep the economy going during the war.
But honestly, the globalised food system sucks...
@Landcombatmissiles
And I have more questions...
Somebody knows the benefits for Russia? (and Turkiye)
I mean, probably there was some money involved, no?
Or was it more international politics with no direct monetary gains?
And for Ukraine: I do not know enough about how the farming structure in the Ukraine. My guess would be that most of the exported grains were produced by very large farming corporations in the hands of oligarchs. So, who benefitted from this? (At least, some taxes for the Ukrainian government, and some trickle down over the involved workers).
Somebody has more in-depth informatio?
