"The problem with moderators is that they have to be extremely online to adequately perform their duties but being online that much makes you fucking insane"

Would you be an early adopter of a Kolektiva (or larger "anarchist fediverse") IRC chatroom, if such a thing existed?
is Kolektiva not really your vibe? that's chill. you can migrate to another instance that works better
not sure how to do it? check out this video (relevant info starts at 1:20): https://kolektiva.media/videos/watch/f557abe7-2651-4c41-9d4c-c835ff212ca8
thanks @kescher and @meganeko for pointing out the reblog, which was in addition to a sort of meta-opinion about covid which was really an opinion about how the #fediblock hashtag is to be used
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but the Kolektiva mod team has been trying to figure out what exactly crosses the line when it comes to vaccine discourse. I am the mean moderator, tho, and as far as I'm concerned at this point, Abura's 2nd chance (granted with reluctance) has been squandered
some #fediblock meta...
I have frozen log-in for Kolektiva user @abura thanks to this: https://kolektiva.social/@abura/108749275103401403
Other measures to follow?
I had previously suspended the account over COVID discourse that was probably against Kolektiva policy, but which was definitely annoying. The current post is mostly NOT against the policy, exactly, but it is DEEPLY annoying, considering the user said he wouldn't persist in this fashion
Apologies to @kescher and others for the unpleasantness
there's current some activity on the #fediblock tag about our user @abura
he "think[s] the [COVID-19 mitigating] measures were worse than the sickness itself in this case." this is, in and of itself, at least MAYBE a reasonable opinion to hold, and not contrary to our policy
at least at first glance, however, he has gone beyond reasonable opinion and into falsehood that's all too typical of the anti-vaxx conspiracist milieu
I have suspended his account. the user can appeal within 30 days
meta
@flugennock It should go without saying that, of course, there are differences of opinion between U.S. outlets (and outlets based in other countries), and that a preponderance of outright falsehoods is to be found on broadly pro-Putin, right-wing outlets
Truth can also be used for propaganda. If someone was posting stuff about LGBT rights being bad in a Middle Eastern country (for example) in order to forgive/justify a NATO-associated aggression, that would also be Kolektiva-inappropriate
meta
@flugennock some things are true and some things are lies. It's not my job to sort them out from one another, but, to be clear, I think Russian state media relies more on complete falsehoods than U.S. equivalents vis-à-vis the current situation because the Russian state is presently the one involved in the illegal war of aggression
Your analogizing to the Iraq War situation is very apt, but you seem to be missing the most important point of comparison, which is who is doing the attacking

Mike claims Kolektiva mods "admit that the RT and Sputnik reports [all of them?] were 'more or less valid'" but that's not what happened
I - just one Kolektiva mod among several - acknowledged that pro-Russian outlets sometimes report actual facts. I didn't have the Mariupol stuff in mind, but articles Mike boosted about far right presence at pro-Ukrainian rallies in North America

The fediverse is a true social network, in that it actually requires you to do "networking" and be "social."
Think of it like a crowded pub. There are no celebrities here. You'll need to make an effort to meet people, no algorithm pushes content on you. To find more people, and new content, you'll need to talk to people, and see what they're into. You can move around, but you need to get along with people sitting near you.
These are commonly labeled "problems," but I consider them "features." #feditips
#kolektivamod (or #kolektivamoderation but that's too long maybe) are good hashtags to alert all active Kolektiva mods about an issue
#kolektivameta is a good hashtag for expressing opinions about our instance, how we should do things in the future, improvements or clarifications we should make to our Code of Conduct or whatever, and so on
using these hashtags will make it easier to understand what the fuck is happening when events are transpiring

Coming to this late, but there was another Kolektiva user who behaved rather shittily in dialogue with users of other instances, specifically around fediverse accessbility stuff.
We are not mandating that captions on images at this time, but I will just say, personally, that attacking the idea of captions - or proclaiming that you will NEVER be captioning anything yourself - is a very bad look.
A direct message was sent and hopefully nothing more comes of this matter.
I am part of the #kolektivamod team; it is shit work that I am not paid for, but I think the Kolektiva project is worthwhile. I am usually the one who sends messages to users who have acted like assholes.
Happy to discuss problems with rough-around-the-edges users, and give out 2nd and 3rd chances, but I have other, more interesting things to do with my life than arguing with you.
This is not my personal account.
