"I couldn’t understand the concept of no leaders and I used to go up to the nearest alpha male alpha female and say, ‘I’ll tell you what someone needs to be saying, what you should be doing is this and here’s what you should do’ and they gave me this look which I never understood...
after about a year the penny dropped and I suddenly realised what that look meant was 'yeah good idea, why don’t you do it yourself' "

Has it become acceptable in the workplace to start formal emails with "@username" yet? Asking for a friend.
I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 104 guesses with an accuracy of 44.23%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/
We know volunteering to help an open source project can feel overwhelming, even when you're interested. Well here's one for those with a web UX and layout skillset:
Owncast is going through a redesign and could use your help with opinions and feedback. We'd like a person or two to act as consultants in our chat to answer questions, you don't need to actively produce or _do_ anything. We need someone to ask: "Should this be blue? Is this ugly?" Could that be you?
The opinion of some rando on Twitter should not be a news headline, never mind being the headline for a story shared with me as being particularly important today.
I've seen way more people horny-posting in response to the new She-Hulk trailer tbh.
If the newspaper must have some sort of clickbaity headline, they could easily use that as their angle, instead of inflating and igniting hate mobs.
So bored of this shit.
Need help finding an image:
I am searching for a specific image that is similar to the "pyramid of capitalism".
From what I remember...
Two people are shown lounging on a luxurious beach alone, or so it seems.
At the bottom left of the image, however, there are lots of people struggling while they hold up the beach in a similar way to how the worker class are, in the "pyramid of capitalism".
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

#askfedi #feditips need help with filling out my profile
The flexibility of profile metadata fields is a nice feature but it would be good to know if there any conventions worth following e.g. if certain metadata labels have any special css attached to them.
An autocomplete list similar to the hashtag autocomplete list might be a nice simple way to assist with this.
workplace grumbles, autism
Irritated by out of office autoreply emails.
Fair enough if you are on a week long break but if I send an email on a weekday evening, I don't need a reply letting me know your office hours are 9am-5pm.
Then again, the people I've noticed this happening with are autism support contacts and perhaps that explicitness is necessary and welcoming for others. :s

I'm sure that I've heard that using decades (and generations e.g. Millennial) are bad practice for splitting up periods of time when documenting history.
But with
1/ Napster launching mid-1999,
2/ RATM Christimas no1 being at the end of 2009 and
3/ 2009-11 being roughly when streaming started creeping in
That decade does demarcate quite well a certain period of time in the music industry.
The 00s opened up the music scene.
It allowed people to search for, follow and build more obscure and specific scenes that didn't get any mainstream coverage.
And I'm sure other people on here know plenty of great protest music from the 00s, that is totally ignored in Lindsay's video, because it wasn't covered by mainstream media.
If anyone wants to share some of their faves, that would be appreciated. Thanks (11/11)
Anyway... wooah...
I pretty much ended up summarising my whole thesis there.
(unlisted so as not to jam up the public timeline too much)
All I meant to do, though, was post this Kimya Dawson protest song, which is just one of many songs overlooked in Lindsay's video.
It was released on an independent label, but still ended up getting a lot of wide coverage due to being on the Juno soundtrack. (10/?)
These factors then allowed for a rebellion against the music industry, culminating in Rage Against The Machine being pushed to no 1 in the UK charts on Christmas Day. (9/?)
After years of pushback against the internet it was only towards the end of the decade that the music industry started to accept and integrate digital distribution models.
The UK Charts allowed digital sales to be factored into their sales charts.
At the same time, apps like Twitter and Facebook allowed for mass marketing to be available to anyone with internet access. (8/?)
