Students still doing their thing at PSU and the library remains occupied.

PSU president, PPB sheriff, Portland mayor, and district attorney all had a press conference last night. A lot of the typical bullshit but also a bit softer in tone than usual, likely in part due to optics and awareness of support and sympathy for pro Palestine activists. My guess is this is why PPB said "we've been intentionally not trying to escalate any of these events" and that they want to do this with "no arrests and no amount of force." They also said that this is now a "criminal event" and no longer a "free speech event" which requires a "different type of response." A lot of this seemed to be about optics and justification for future behavior too. They want to gain community sympathy and support for their inevitable repressive & violent response. It also serves as a scare tactic. Last night they said they're giving people a window of time to leave on their own, but no time frame was given. PSU president also made it clear that the administration gave PPB the green light to engage and the DA threatened criminal charges. While there is a very good chance there is truth to that, it's also election season... and with the reputation our DA has, this rhetoric serves in his favor to garner more support and attempt at securing his reelection.

All classes and campus have been shut down for the day. Will update as things progress.
