Been listening to a load of Jeff Mills lately - because the internet has an awful lot of live shows of his. He's got the most fascinating hands - terrifying control over the decks. DJing doesn't talk about virtuosi and I wouldn't know what one looked like but it's amazing to watch (above video is not watch-y).
I quite often think (and I am correct about this) that the problem with #minimalism (as in the composition thing of the 60s-70s-onwards) is that it's just not as exciting as techno. Techno quite often makes me feel insane and Philip Glass makes me bored. Which is to say, the idea of minimalism was best served by black kids in Detroit.
If anyone has any tips for Detroit techno business, especially women DJs, I'd be literally all of the ears.
