“Last month I was just worried about my classes. Now I’m worried that I’ll simply disappear.”

- From email from a talented student whose visa was just summarily cancelled because she’s from the wrong country.

God damn this.

I've now seen a second instance of a quote attributed to me in a news site I've never heard of (and certainly was not interviewed for). In general, if the quote includes the phrase 'AI' with no scare quotes or other distance, that's a good sign it's not really from me.

I've written to ask for a retraction, so we'll see. I suspect this is yet another case of someone posting the text extruded from an LLM as if it were news. It's appalling.

"The damage isn't theoretical. It's active. It's live. And it's reshaping the world. Trade routes are shifting. Investment is diversifying. Global power is rebalancing. China, Korea, and Japan are shaking hands. All of it is premised on a hard-earned truth: the United States cannot be trusted to lead. Not because of one man but because of what half the country has chosen to normalize. Not because of Trump alone but because every institution built to restrain him failed and then got in line."

The Index. · Trust Is Dead. Trump Keeps Selling the Corpse.Behind every handshake is a nation plotting its exit strategy from the American empire.

The unintended consequences of this regime's actions are delightfully ironic.

Reduced consumption and a crashed economy may very well result in the US finally meeting Paris Climate Agreement carbon emission goals.

📄 NEW: The Trump tariffs have caused shockwaves inside MAGA, breaking down the fragile coalition that propelled him to a second term. Democrats should seize the opportunity to map the fissures and exploit the chaos.

America 2.0 · Tariffs Expose Rifts in Fragile MAGA CoalitionRepublicans don't agree about tariffs, and we're beginning to see visible discord that can be used to break apart the fragile MAGA coalition.

I know trans people who range in age from 15 to in their 60s. I have noticed a few patterns. All of them are pretty normal. For those I've known before they let everyone know, they seemed much happier after, though that did take a few years in some cases. The only two people I know who are "struggling" are mostly struggling *because* they don't have a supportive family. But, most have supportive families, or families that learned to be supportive. And that is what I have noticed. Wow.

i have a new theory called alive internet theory where i propose that the internet is full of real people and you can befriend some of them even and maybe actually kiss them and more

**** Mastodon.social friends! ****

I accidentally blocked your entire instance instead of a pesky troll last night ( :awesome:) and severed all relationships with folks I was following (now restored) and now-former followers (🥹).

I've unblocked mastodon.social. Boosts to help let some former friends know would be great! Please.

Thanks!

“The girl died of “measles pulmonary failure,” according to records obtained by The New York Times. The hospital, part of UMC Health System, confirmed the death later on Sunday, adding that the girl was unvaccinated and had no underlying health conditions.”

So in essence her parents killed her.

Unpopular opinion: you shouldn't be investing in the stock market if you either don't know, or don't care, what a P/E ratio is.

The actual way you were supposed to make money in the stock market back in the day was dividends because you were a part owner in the company, not endless number go up vibes bullshit.

I'm not capitalism's biggest fan, but also what we do now isn't actually bog-standard capitalism. It's neoliberal nonsense vibing.
